The latest update for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, scheduled for release from October 2024 to March 2025, introduces several features designed to enhance user experience, boost productivity, and streamline business processes. 1. Subscription management and revenue allocation

For businesses dealing with recurring services, such as subscriptions, Business Central makes it easier to invoice subscriptions. You can now create templates that combine products and services into a hybrid subscription contract, streamlining billing schedules. Want to learn more? 2. Background processing: Instant issue notifications

When background processes like reports or batch tasks fail, you’ll receive an instant notification. This allows you to respond quickly and maintain productivity, without delaying important processes.

3. Multiple VAT numbers for customer

For customers with warehouses in different EU countries, you can now easily configure alternative VAT numbers. Business Central automatically applies the correct VAT settings and corresponding accounting groups based on the shipping address on the sales documents.

4. Adjust column size for better usability

As a Business Central users, you’re now able to resize collum widths, even without enabling the personalization feature. Whether you’re searching for specific records or improving the readability of a page, this feature will help improve the readability of a page, making working with lists more convenient and faster.

5. Intrastat extension

The new Intrastat extension replaces the previous diary functionality and simplifies the filing of intra-community deliveries. From now on, you’ll use Intrastat reports for your declarations.

6. Extended financial reporting

There are five new standard reports for financial reporting.

  • Trial balance and balance sheet
  • Detailed balance sheet
  • Balance sheet overview
  • Detailed income statement
  • Income statement summary

In addition, a set of five new row definitions and 12 column definitions are available. The demo company Contoso has been extended with demo data to preview this reporting.

7. Improved project invoicing

Creating project invoices is now more efficiënt with the “Create Project Sales Invoice” action. Additional actions are also added to the “Project List” page, including:

  • Assembly orders
  • Storage, pick and move rules
  • Registered picking rules
  • Cockpit project-OHW

8. Use put-away and pick warehouses with projects.

It is now possible to use directed put-away and pick warehouses with projects. You can even generate pick documents directly from projects.

9. Purchase orders for projects

Within Business Central, you can quickly create purchase orders to ensure having the necessary materials for a new or ongoing project. On the Project Card page, you can create purchase orders for the items by choosing the Create Purchase Order action. When finished, you can view and edit the orders before sending them to your suppliers.

10. Shoptify integration

Business Central enhances its integration with Shopify, allowing sales invoices to be automatically exported to the webshop, significantly streamlining the sales process.

11. User groups

User groups in Business Central are being replaced by security groups, which must now be defined in Azure. Companies using user groups will need to update their permissions management in both Azure and Business Central ensure the right access levels are maintained.

12. Sustainability features

Business Central now makes it easier to track sustainability certificates and record greenhouse gas emissions. Emission data can be added directly to purchase invoices by simply selecting the sustainability account and entering the assigned emission quantities. Integrating sustainability metrics into financial reports increases their value, demonstrating your commitment to transparency and accountability. See an example of the sustainability journal here.

13. AI support with Copilot

Microsoft is expanding the capabilities of their AI assistant, Copilot. Whether you need help automatically generating sales lines, analyzing sales trends, or reconciling bank accounts, Copilot saves you time and automates routine tasks.
